Hello from Deral Paulk, PLS OK
I am a surveyor in the United States and I'm located in what we call the midwest portion of the country. I'm located in the SW Corner in the State of Oklahoma. Often it's called the State of Confusion by those from other states.
I work for a municipality that supports a community of 100,000 people. I am the City Surveyor and the GIS Administrator.
I also teach Geodesy, GIS and GPS at Oklahoma State University. It is one of our four year colleges in Oklahoma.
I look forward to learning much about surveying in Ireland and specifically how you do land grants, purchases and easements.
It appears by my research that the survey community is very much proactive in the GIS arena in Ireland. This is sadly not the case in much of America but some of us are trying to build a cadastral quilt for the next several generations.
I just wanted to give a little background information so that you can consider my posts on this board. Some will seem to be brilliant (we all have moments) and some will be considered completely ignorant.
I searched for this board because of communications with two of your own on another survey board that is international in scope.
I have developed a great friendship with both of them and if they are examples of Ireland then they both are sterling examples of a fine country and very well educated surveyors.
Forgive me when I say things like it's "Only 93 degrees today" and forget to add the 'f' for fahrenheit. Please don't anyone have a heart attack..
We pretty much use US Survey Feet in Oklahoma but I can speak in metrics when talking of GPS.
Thats a short story and Paul may tell you more.
Deral Paulk, PLS OK City of Lawton Land Surveyor and GIS Administrator
